The gods never finished the world of the future, and now mankind must navigate this dangerous world with only the Freelancers to stand between shadowy villains and the ancient technology they seek. In Anthem you must become a Freelancer and team up with three other elite fighters to… well, yes, you’re going to save the world. If you’re up to it. Anthem is a game that’s all about scale and spectacle. In your Javelin (more on those in a second) you’re free to explore it by air, and there’s a verticality to the world that is all the game’s own. The environments are big and bold, operating on a scale that’s entirely fitting for such a science fictional epic. Explore vast ruins, seek out otherworldly artifacts and battle deadly enemies against stunning backdrops. At the heart of the action is your Javelin, a customisable exosuit that can grant you all manner of abilities. Think Iron Man with more variety and a lot more guns. You can use your Javelin to take to the skies, move at breathtaking speeds and safely explore watery depths. How you choose to kit out your Javelin will impact your place on your team and your strategic role in the many (many) firefights you’re going to find yourself in. Beyond that, you can personalise your suit with a ton of different options that will only grow as you progress through the game and claim ever more loot. Following the Destiny model, this is a game that’s going to be delivered as a service. That means it will continually change and evolve as developer BioWare and EA continue to add new stories, challenges and world-shaking events. Anthem is a bold new sci-fi narrative, and you can be a part of it as it grows and unfolds.

If you spend a lot of time with your favourite gaming handheld in public, you've probably heard this sentence once or twice before.
