In Devil May Cry 4 (DMC4) players control a formidable young Holy Knight in the Order of Maken named Nero, who witnesses his leader’s slaughter at the hands of Dante. Nero believes Dante to be a demon, and must therefore be vanquished: he has after all sworn an oath to annihilate all demons. Nero finds that he has get to grips with his newly-discovered power (more of which later) as his allegiance and beliefs are tested. Is Dante the real villain of the piece, however? In a quest to continue the series’ legacy of furiously-paced action, DMC4 pulls out all the stops with the inclusion of a new combat system that incorporates Nero’s ‘Devil Bringer’. This new feature enables the player to deliver overwhelming damage to opponents with non-stop combos, all the while gaining new power for Nero’s right arm. The Exceed system – a propellant which makes Nero’s sword strike harder and faster – is also a new aspect of gameplay in DMC4. Nero is the character with whom you will start your adventure in DMC4, as Dante only becomes available as a playable character after certain goals are accomplished. Both Nero and Dante are bestowed with powerful weaponry, of course, and a host of special and powerful moves, such as Red Queen and Blue Rose. We don’t want to give too much away, but suffice to say that DMC does not look/sound like the flogging of a dead horse at all. The series has come on strong for the new breed of console, and DMC4 will keep PS3 and 360 owners fascinated and engrossed for quite a while. If you don’t ‘get’ DMC4, you probably have a demon in your soul.
