The Little Mermaid was a Disney film released in 1989, loosely based upon a story by Hans Christian Andersen. Inspired by the aforementioned animated feature, Disney’s The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure on the Nintendo DS sees players assume the role of everyone’s favourite mermaid Ariel on an aquatic quest to uncover a fun mystery. The game’s storyline touches on various parts of the film. Players will be pleased to know, all the characters from the film make their way into the game, including King Triton, Ursula, Flotsom, Flounder, Jetsom, Sebastian, Seahorse and Eric. There are 13 different levels of interactive gameplay to enjoy, that include playing music with friends using the system’s Wi-Fi capabilities, singing into the DS microphone to unlock clues and using the DS stylus to dig up and even polish hidden treasure. Using the DS touchscreen, it is also possible to rub a crystal ball to view film clips from the movie. On your mission, you will be helped along the way by Flounder as you explore the undersea world. With 16 different levels there is plenty of longevity on offer. Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is certainly not aimed at the post-teen demographic, unless you’re a Little Mermaid fanatic. The game is definitely one for the kids and an eminently suitable one at that.
