War (huh!). What is it good for? THQ will give you a startlingly honest answer to that question. It’s good for keeping your car going. Frontlines: Fuel of War forgoes the trappings of the fight for democracy and other such idealogical trimmings and drops you knee deep in a war for oil raging across the Middle East. The very fate of civilisation hangs in the balance, with the Western Coalition (the US and Europe) duking it out against the Red Star Alliance (Russia and China, if you hadn’t guessed). The single player campaign moves players through this epic storyline, which takes place in the near future but will look hauntingly familiar to anyone who watches the news. It’s the multiplayer mode that’s the star of the show, however. The online component offers a whopping 50 players the opportunity to duke it out in one epic match. Players can go at it on foot or jump into a tank, hummer or even a jet fighter. Further enriching things is the opportunity to take on different roles. As well as the usual classes available, players can opt to be the guy who (for example) calls in the airstrike, or activates the EMP weapon to disable enemy vehicles. So, war’s good for keeping your car full of oil, but it also might be good for gleaning a bit of dirty pleasure with 49 of your close friends.
