Skylanders is the modern descendent of the once popular Spyro series of games. Now expanded and extended to include a host of other playable and non-playable characters, and to interface with a hugely popular line of toy figures. Giants is a direct sequel to SkyLanders. The SkyLands are under threat from KAOS and the robot army, so it is time to bring back the Giants: mythical SkyLanders who fought fought epic battles long ago in history. The Giants were banished to Earth, but now the SkyLands need them to fight this new threat. Taking place in a beautiful 3D world, SkyLanders: Giants brings more than 40 new characters to the series. As the name suggests, some of them are bigger in both physical and virtual versions than the original SkyLanders cast. And it’s not just their bodies that are oversized, their powers are bigger and more impressive too. The physical toys have new features – place them on the Portal of Power and they appear in the game. You can use this to swap your characters out during a level, to use each one’s different powers to best advantage to help you win. Every one of the characters from the previous game can be imported in to Giants, along with players’ stats, upgrades and customisations. Your favourite characters get a Wow Pow upgrade to put them on a par with the Giants. Along with the new characters, there are new challenges, and a thrilling new story in this exciting new game. Battle mode enables player to go head-to-head with their friends, and new Hero Challenges encourage you to collect and enable you to upgrade every character – and you’ll need to if you want to take on the game in Nightmare Mode – a difficulty level only open to you when you complete it on one of the three standard levels. Players also get to try their hand at a selection of mini games, which are used to aid your progress through the main game story. Some of these mini-games can interact with mobile devices as controller, and Wii-U users can even play the entire game on the Wii-U Controller. SkyLanders: Giants is the greatest combination of video game and real-world toys ever seen.
