Sony has had a lot of success with the PlayStation 2 EyeToy Play games, and with the release of the PS3 Move peripheral it makes sense that we get to enjoy another round of augmented reality-based mini-games. Start The Party! allows you to turn your living room into a funhouse once more, with over 20 different games to play and a Custom Party Mode to arrange them in any order you like! The PlayStation Eye tracks your body and shows an image of you on the TV, while the PlayStation Move is used to interact with the virtual objects to win points. Slice melons in half with your pirate sword, brush the teeth of a crocodile, pop various colours of pufferfish and whack pinatas, draw shapes, fan parachuters to raft-based safety, trim hair and swat bugs with your friends – pass the controller around for up to three additional players for maximum enjoyment. After you’ve beaten the clock (and your friends) in every game, a slideshow displays all the funniest photos of you moving around the room like a crazy person. Here’s a meta-game for you: try and see if you can complete any of these mini-games without looking silly and having awesome fun at the end of it. Now there’s the real challenge in this game.
