Tennis Masters features two challenging modes of play: Exhibition Mode, in which you can play singles or doubles matches with the terms of play set to suit your own requirements; and Tournament Mode, in which you enter a series of competitions around the world starting with locations like New York, Montreal, Santiago and London. As your experience grows and you get nearer to becoming a tennis master by winning harder tournaments, then more international tournaments are opened up. These new locations are available in all modes of play, and you can also revisit them at anytime. To complete the Tennis Masters experience, at the start of the game you must choose the character that you think will aid best your progress through the game. Each character has different attributes and abilities, such as speed around the court, quality of serve and volley play. To assist novice players, a blue cursor is available on screen to literally put you in the best position to hit the ball. The Helper can be switched on and off as you deem fit. Tennis Masters for the Nintendo DS invites players to learn and master skills like ‘chip and charge’ and ‘serve volley’. It’s a comprehensive enough game alright, and one for those who maybe can’t always find a willing tennis partner.
