Stealth games. They’re now very much an established genre, with varying success, from Konami’s Metal Gear Solid series to EA’s Catwoman. The latest stealth-em-up is brought to you by Hip Interactive Europe, and invites players to join one of the most proverbially stealthy professions of all, that of thief. Not just any thief either: in Stolen you must become Anya Romanov, a sexy, high-tech thief. Set in a crime-ridden, corrupt city, the game follows Anya, assisted by Louie Palmer over a radio, as she tries to pull off a sophisticated heist in the face of futuristic technologies. But when a deal goes sour, the pair find themselves in the middle of a sinister web of conspiracy. Challenged to steal a priceless gem from a samurai statue on display in a museum, Anya accepts the mission chiefly because of the method of payment: super advanced next generation processor chips. But when she gets the jewel, a mysterious observer called Breeze trips the alarm.. Anya is very athletic, as well as being apparently schooled in a deadly martial arts system of some sort. Using her innate skills as well as a whole host of high tech gadgets and tools, she must break into a series of locations and relieve them of priceless items. The film-like storyline will see her in a prison, museum, and satellite station, amongst other places, and the tense gameplay is supplemented by high quality FMVs. Ranged against many different enemies, Anya can make use of gizmos such as tracking devices and sonic visors, or just keep to the shadows, which are realised using real time volumetric shadow mapping. Realistic and advanced enemy AI and gameplay systems are also promised. Developed by troubled software house Blue52, the game offers a full stealth experience on XBOX, PS2 and PC.
